Federal Legislation & Policy: Overview

The National Center for Lesbian Rights works tirelessly to advance our priorities on the federal level by partnering with the administration and Congress to advocate for legislative and policy changes that benefit the LGBT community. Our work involves a combination of legislative and administrative advocacy, and public education where we raise awareness about the needs and vulnerabilities of the LGBT community to diverse audiences of policy and lawmakers, academics, elected officials, and other community stakeholders.

NCLR works closely with the White House and the administrative agencies—including the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Department of Agriculture (USDA), and others to advance policies and regulations that help to ensure equality in every facet of life for the LGBT community. NCLR also actively engages Congress to advance legislation to protect the LGBT community from discrimination and works to ensure that all legislation is LGBT-inclusive.
