State Legislation & Policy: Overview

Since its start, the National Center for Lesbian Rights has been on the cutting edge of social change, using litigation, legislation, policies, and public education to shape the legal landscape for LGBT people and their families.

NCLR works hand-in-hand with state and local groups across the country to advance state legislation and policies that benefit LGBT people. These efforts have included assisting in drafting ordinances and legislation, providing testimony in state legislatures in support of LGBT-inclusive legislation, and assisting with public education campaigns advancing state and local policy and legislative efforts. NCLR also works closely with state and local advocates to ensure that victories achieved at the federal level are successfully implemented and enforced at the local level.

NCLR is committed to defending and protecting every member of the diverse LGBT community, and will continue to do so until everyone can truly live free of discrimination and mistreatment.
